Any incoming 6th-12th grader residing in Michigan may apply. Priority goes to children of staff or board members and siblings of current students.
The 1st open enrollment deadline for the 2026-2027 school year is February 28th, 2026. If we have fewer seats available than applicants who have completed all of their enrollment paperwork, a lottery will take place to determine which students get a seat and which students are placed on the waiting list. If there is no need for a lottery, applicants will proceed with the enrollment process.
After February 28th, 2026, students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until open seats are filled. If seats are filled, applicants will be put on a waiting list in the order in which they applied. If your student does not get a spot for fall of 2026 and you wish to enroll in the winter or fall semester of 2027, you must reapply. Applications do not roll over.
Below are the current open spots per grade level. Do not be discouraged if your student’s grade is full. These numbers are likely to change, and many waitlisted students secure a spot. Please keep your contact information up to date with the Outreach Coordinator.

During school hours, prospective families can take a guided tour of AAW, pop into classrooms, meet teachers & students and get a feel for the culture of Arts Academy.
Still not sure that AAW is a good fit? Prospective students can sign up for a shadow day and experience “a day in the life” of an AAW student. They will be paired with a current student to shadow that has similar art interests.

Once you decide to enroll, you will receive an enrollment email with instructions from our Outreach Coordinator. In addition to filling out our Registration Gateway (link and password are in the email), you will be asked to provide the following:
Yes. All applicants will have an audition. Auditions are a way for us to meet our artists – not to exclude them. Auditions are NOT competitive and do not determine acceptance – they are for placement and help us understand each student’s artistic background so we can ensure the program is the right fit and place them accordingly.
No! We take students where they are and help them grow from there.
No. We are a tuition-free school.
No. Some families choose to carpool or use the Smartbus, neither of which is affiliated with Arts Academy in the Woods.
No. Arts Academy does not have organized sports teams, although we do have some afterschool sports (and other) clubs.
