WHY WORK AT ARTS ACADEMY IN THE WOODS?
The Academy is a fine and performing arts public, charter high school serving students from Macomb, Wayne and Oakland counties. Our students complete the Michigan Merit Curriculum while majoring in one or more art areas: dance, vocal music, instrumental music, multimedia art, 2D art or 3D art.
We are a small, close-knit community, and we serve a diverse group of 325-380 students and 20 – 25 teachers. Our community prides itself on its diversity; 60% of our students are white, 35% are African American, 33% are economically disadvantaged, 33% of our students are male. We also have a small but significant LGBT student community.
Our teachers were the first charter school teachers in Michigan to Unionize and are proud members of the American Federation of Teachers, Michigan Alliance of Charter Teachers and Staff, Arts Academy in the Woods Federation of Teachers, AFT Michigan, AFL-CIO. Our full time staff members receive a generous benefit package available, including health, medical and enrollment in the Michigan Public School Employee Retirement System.
